Lifting Plan Review & Endorsement

What the Technical Authority/Responsible Person should ascertain when reviewing/endorsing lifting plans (list not exhaustive):

  • identification of hazards have been risk assessed
  • suitable control measures are in place
  • lifting equipment is correctly rated and certified with all
  • accessories and lift points visually checked
  • availability of certified lifting points
  • process to be followed when using uncertified lifting points
  • trained and competent personnel to carry out the lifting operation
  • de-rating of equipment/accessories (included angles etc)
  • the load path has been selected and cleared of obstructions and/or conflicting operations
  • the lay down area(s) are adequate in both size and load
  • bearing capacity
  • suitable materials available for protection of the load/equipment
  • barriers are positioned and/or suitable warnings issued to prevent unauthorised access
  • confirm the lay down area is within the operating range of the crane
  • weather conditions and their effect on the safety of the lift have
  • been taken into consideration
  • has a meeting been held to discuss plan, do all personnel involved fully understand the plan and has all relevant information been passed on to all parties?
Inspection, Maintenance and Thorough Examination of Loose Lifting Equipment/Accessories
  • Pre-use checks/inspection criteria which should be undertaken
  • In–service checks/inspection criteria
